MINDTHEORY.com is an ongoing effort at understanding and illuminating the relationship between the human brain and human mind. I began this work in 1976, while a student at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

The diagram above illustrates two key concepts of my theoretical framework:  1) the evolutionary nature of the physical human brain, and 2) the inherent duality of human cognition, where essentially raw 'urges' must somehow be correlated against more complex learned behaviors.

This duality suggests a critical insight that should inform all our efforts to mimic human cognition using computers: the basic architecture must duplicate these two separate processes, one essentially tropic, the other essentially rational (i.e. rule-based) - plus a third to bind them together.
